Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is being asked by Keighley’s MP to take part and comment in a debate over the decision of axing of children’s heart services unit in Yorkshire hospitals, a recent report reveals.
While results of a review had asked for the demolition of heart surgeries in Leeds, the suggestions are strictly being criticized on varied grounds. It is being said that the same would require children from Yorkshire to commute to Newcastle or Liverpool for a surgery.
MP Kris Hopkins says there is no point in removing these services from only Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and resuming these at Liverpool and Newcastle hospitals. He says that Leeds hospital provides the same services, saving many heart patients’ lives.
“That is not acceptable to me, nor indeed the more than 600,000 other signatories to the region-wide petition calling for full children’s cardiac services to remain here”, said Kris Hopkins.
As per the findings, it is therefore that an application regarding the organization of a House of Commons debate has been co-sponsored by him. He aims to not only discuss the review findings. But, a meeting to be held this week between MPs and experts has also been called so as to find the next way.
