A First: Mother Snow Leopard and Cubs Located In Mongolia

In its recent statement given out yesterday, a wild cat conservation organization, Panthera has declared that they have been able to site dens of two snow leopards for the first time in Mongolia in its Tost Mountains. It has been reported that officials of the organization have made an extraordinary video, which showcases two snow leopard mothers with their cubs.

It is difficult to locate dens of snow leopards due to the nature of the animal, which makes them more conservative. They live in areas, which are difficult for humans to reach, including mountain terrains.

However, in order to gather more information on these endangered species, it is important to search for their dens or places, where they hide and live and then acknowledge their reproductive behavior.

Tom McCarthy, Executive Director of the snow leopard program at Panthera, said, “We have spent years trying to determine when and where snow leopards give birth, the size of their litters, and the chances a cub has of surviving into adulthood”.

Mr. McCarthy further suggested that till date what information has been gathered regarding the species and their young ones has been accumulated from animals, which have been protected in zoos, although they are just two to three cubs.
