Trials had been conducted to test different drugs as a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and members of Alzheimer’s conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia, have been hoping to see one of these as a final promising treatment.
The report revealed recently says that though, presently available medicines, including Aricept and Namenda, have not given much benefit. Nor there exists a better cure till date than these.
Also, since each and every drug developed in recent past years to treat the disease leading to deprivation of mind has failed. Thus, it is a must that one drug of the three in their late-stage trials passes and provides the frustrated industry some relief.
As per the findings, the disease called dementia currently has almost 35 million victims all across the world. And out of them, some 5 millions are sufferers of Alzheimer's, causing cognitive problems.
Concerned about the same, it is being said by U. S. experts that failure of the trials might deteriorate their conditions as well as end their hopes of getting well. However, maximum possibilities are for their success, since these are not just drugs but antibodies killing amyloid.
‘‘Everybody in the field is probably holding their breath that there is something positive to come out of these trials”, said Mayo Clinic’s director Dr. Ronald Petersen.
