10 people in Louisiana Affected with West Nile Virus

A person in Dallas lost his life due to West Nile virus. Donnie Gerald died, on Thursday, after suffering a bite from mosquito, which has the virus. His wife Lisa Merchant said that she never expected that her husband would die like this.

Explaining the condition of her husband, Lisa said that the virus severely affected the brain of her husband, as it got swelled and it also affected Donnie’s immune system. West Nile virus affects people, quite badly.

Department of Health said that they have witnessed 10 confirmed cases in regard to West Nile virus in Louisiana. There are chances that things get even worse, as before the 10 cases got confirmed, six cases were being registered.

Experts said that there are three different types of West Nile infections. First one being neuroinvasive, second is West Nile fever and third being asymptomatic. A neuroinvasive illness is the one, which directly affects brain, and may result into death of brain.

In comparison to the first one, West Nile fever is less severe, as it makes people suffer from mild flu like symptoms. The third form, which is Asymptomatic, is the one in which people do not get to know about infection till the time they get their blood checked for some other purpose.
