Medics 'face drastic job changes'

According to a leaked document obtained by the Sunday Times, with the UK hospitals tackling a funding crisis which is escalating by the day, thousands of medics currently “face drastic job changes.”

Going by the information shared in the leaked document, the jobs of thousands of doctors and nurses will apparently be axed if they do not agree to the drastic changes which are being proposed to their salaries and other work conditions.

The document essentially highlights the proposals which 19 NHS chiefs have put forth for maintaining patient services in the wake of budgets cuts running into millions of pounds. The proposal include the termination of all employees’ contracts and a reissue on new terms which would comprise pay cuts of up to 5 percent, as well as curtailed holiday leave, and an end to overtime for nights, weekends and bank holidays.

In addition, with the NHS having been forced to make savings to the tune of £20 billion to avert financial crisis, the nine-page document also reveals the longer shifts could also be in the offing for NHS employees as would be a cut in sick pay rates.

Seeking the co-operation of the medics in carrying out the outlined measures, the CEO of the hospitals have said in the document that the acceptance of the proposed measures would help overcome an "extremely hostile" reaction to the move which ought to be taken, particularly if they take the "last resort" of dismissing all the employees and re-recruiting them on less favourable terms.
