Doctors’ Overconfidence Proved ‘Costly’ for New Born

A nurse by profession, this mother continued to ask doctors at the Poole Hospital in Dorset that they should assess her newborn, as she doubted that a golf ball size mark on her daughter was not a birth mark, which doctors were claiming.

Doctors allegedly did not pay heed to Yvonne Bull, as a result of which Isabel had to forego her left ear and has scar on her face. Yvonne said that when her daughter was born this march, she was having a pink mark on her left side of the face. She knew it was much more than a birth mark and went to 20 doctors, who said the same and did not conduct further assessment.

Things started turning ugly, as her mark began to bleed and grow in size. Still, doctors stuck to their earlier judgment that it was a birth mark and gave medicine to reduce the size of the birth mark. One day, while giving feed to Isabel, the mark ruptured, and Yvonne took her to doctor, and was later referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Isabel, who was just few months old, was diagnosed with rare sarcoma tumor, for which she had to undergo a six-hour surgery. She has lost her ear, has scar on her face and needs chemotherapy in the coming time.
