In the wake of latest reports that some 112 people died from hand, foot and mouth disease, there seems to be urgency seen among the authorities concerned in the context of the illness. It was last week that the Ministry of Health confirmed that some 381 000 people were infected with the illness and that’s what caused one and all to worry more.

“The disease incidence rate in June was much higher than that of last June, which has much to do with the high temperatures this summer”, said Liu Fuqiang with the provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while making it clear that as soon as symptoms of the disease are detected; parents must send their infected kids to hospital. It has further been told that among all, children are more likely to suffer from the disease, which has symptoms of mouth sores, skin rashes or fever.

If previous reports are to be believed, there were some 460 000 people infected in May, which killed some 132. However, figures of June are yet to be disclosed. It was perhaps to the consistent rise in the number of cases that health departments in numerous Chinese provinces and regions were alerted and issues warnings in context of the outbreak of the disease.
