Research Links Cellphone Use With Saliva Production

A recent research has claimed that use of cell phone could increase the formation of saliva. It has been claimed by a team from the Vidhya Shikshan Prasark Mandal's Dental College and Research Center, that heat and radiofrequency released from cell phones have the tendency to instigate tissues.

For the research, 142 men and women, between the ages of 18 and 30, were recruited. It was made sure by the team that all the participants used cell phones for at least three years. It was concluded that those who used cells phones more than others had larger parotid glands and thus they secreted 26% more saliva while they were holding the cell phones.

"This study observed functional and volumetric changes induced in parotid glands are associated with excessive mobile phone use”, said the authors of the study. Earlier, it was believed that radiofrequency radiation and heat produced by the cell phones could have negative effect on health of humans, thereby indicating that moderate use is called for.

There is need to probe the study further so that a lot more is made known about the connection between cell phone use and production of saliva.
