Video Game Therapy: Not Less than Any Miracle for Stroke Patients

Researchers are suggesting new video game therapy for stroke patients to help them recover fast from their illnesses. The suggestions have come in a medical conference that was recently held in Brisbane.

During the conference, researchers explained about their new findings and said that video games are helping stroke patients to recover fast from their affected health. They claimed that stroke patients have shown a remarkable regain in functioning of their limbs after playing games on the Wii.

Explaining the phenomena behind this new and unusual discovery, Dr. Penelope McNulty, a neurophysiologist at Neuroscience Research Australia said that she and Ms. Tim Cox noticed in their study that playing on video games served as an effective rehabilitation tool for stroke patients.

She explains that the new stroke rehabilitation therapy uses the Nintendo Wii to provide strength to the muscles and the nerves of the patient's arms and hands thereby helping them improve their conditions, China's Xinhua news agency reported the Australian neurophysiologist saying on Thursday.

McNulty said in a statement that "But we have worked with people who have had strokes one month to 21 years ago, and excitingly, they all improve".

The therapy not only has served patients with fantastic benefits but is also inexpensive to use and thus can be opted by any patient.
