July 4: the day when Sir Neil McKay, chairman of the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts, announced to close the LGI pediatric cardiology unit in Yorkshire. In regard to this, several SELBY district families have decided to support the regional joint health panel of councillors who are about to meet Neil for discussing the ill effects of closing this hear surgery unit. This meeting would take place on Monday, July 23 at 12 noon in Millennium Square in Leeds.

This Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee represent each local authority of the Yorkshire and Humber region.

If this unit gets closed from the area, then in future, parents have to take their children either to Newcastle, Birmingham or Liverpool for getting their heart operated, even during emergency times.

It is for the first time, that such a rude and unfair decision has been taken in Yorkshire and therefore it has lightened up a feeling of great stress among the public. Hundreds of people are expecting to be present at a passive protest that would be held by the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and its supporters.

This demonstration will give all the supporters a chance to know the reason and main aim behind Sir McKay and his team’s this decision. They would clearly get to know their impending plans.
