A recent report confirmed the fourth women to receive a test dose after she was diagnosed with Hendra virus. The Central Queensland woman as of now is an infection control ward of the Princess Alexandra Hospital and is part of an experimental antibody therapy.
It had been made clear by Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young that the woman would be closely monitored to track down the effects of the trail dose. "She's well, given the circumstances that she's in. She doesn't have symptoms suggestive of a Hendra infection”, said Jeannette Young. "I think it's highly, highly unlikely that she has a Hendra virus infection at this stage”.
While the name of the woman has been kept under covers, it was claimed that she would be observed properly. It was during fifth outbreak of the deadly virus this year, that shocking death news of a seven-month-old shocked one and all. While the therapy has worked on animal model, it would be worth seeing what kind of effect it would have on humans to prevent Hendra infections.
Financially backed by the National Health and Medical Research Council, the research has all glued to the results which might be able to change a lot in future.
