The 2002 AM31 asteroid that was discovered 10 years ago by LINEAR, Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research, can now be seen with the help of Slooh Space Camera at Canary Island. The show will begin at 4:30 Pacific (7:30 Eastern), so ensure to be on time. In case you get late, don’t worry there will be another telescope in Arizona that will give you the chance to track this asteroid at around 8 p. m. Pacific (11 Eastern).
There will be discussion too between Slooh and their very own Patrick Paolucci, Astronomy magazine columnist Bob Berman, and astronomer Matt Francisco from Prescott Observatory.
2002 AM31 is a pretty large asteroid that was found near-Earth asteroid. It is 3,000 feet wide and is equal to 3.2 million miles of Earth. This means, the AM31 is 14 times the distance between Earth and Moon.
However, there are nil chances that this asteroid would ever hit our planet but still it has been given the name “potentially hazardous”, why? Reason, it has such a huge size and space that the scientist decided to name it this way.
So don’t miss this unique opportunity of watching the space rock, 2002 AM31, when it comes within a distance of about 3.2 million miles from our earth on Sunday.
A few weeks ago, it was revealed by the scientists that the atmospheric concentration of CO2 had neared a staggering 400 part per million. Climate change is an issue that demands India to take effective measures to cut down carbon emissions.
