In a report, the Energy and Climate Change Committee has advised the UK government to call for more steps towards preservation of the environment. According to the Committee, the UK government is required to reduce the subsidies over fossil fuels. Besides, the energy efficiency is also required to be raised, believes the Committee.

Meanwhile, it has further come to light that the European Commission is planning to come up with certain ideas which would strengthen the carbon markets of EU. According to the analysts, the price for carbon ‘pollution permit’ is quite low. Therefore, in the coming times, the price for carbon ‘pollution permit’ would witness a hike.

For quite long, the environmentalists have been asking the EU government to increase the emission cutting targets by 10%. However, the major coal producers have been reluctant of the move. But, the Committee has asked the EU to speed up with the decision making and bring in the desired changes.

The Chairman of the committee Tim Yeo said, “…it must now show leadership again by setting a more ambitious goal to bolster the chances of a new agreement being reached in 2015”. It is hoped that the UK government would take the necessary steps.
