Stanley Henkeman, 54-year-old man, from Cape Town is one of those lucky ones who after a waiting period of 8 months, as finally got a new heart for him.

It was in 2006, when while hiking at Swellendam in Cape Town, he was hit by a severe heart attack. Upon diagnosis, Stanley was told that he is at the final stage and needs an immediate heart transplant. But all efforts in vain; there were a waiting list and Stanley was left with no other option but just to wait.

After 8 months, he got a call saying that one heart is available for him. He was filled with anxiety and happiness but was unable to express his feelings. The operation started and after six hours, he was transplanted with a new heart in his chest.

In order to honor the donor, Stanley decided to perform all those activities that were not possible for him with his old heart. Now he is fit and fine and is practicing hard to compete in next year's 19th World Transplant Summer Games, in Durban. He will be representing South Africa in the veterans' category of the 100m and 200m sprint and long jump.
