The whole world is grappling with the problem of obesity. Researchers and health experts have been asking people to pay special attention to exercise rather than on diet. However, a recent study has stirred controversy as it has been found that westerners are turning obese because of overeating rather than inactive lifestyle.
The World Health Organization has estimated that one in three people, all over the world, would be obese by 2015. The health researchers have been accusing the unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle of westerners for obesity. However, according to the recent study, overeating is the main cause behind large waistline.
The findings of the study have been published in the journal, PLoS ONE. For the study, the researchers examined the lifestyle of Hadza people. The Hadza people live on hunting. Instead of using modern hunting tools they hunt animals and forge for berries.
As compared to the westerners, the Hadza people have highly active life. However, their health problems were similar to that of westerners. Dr. Pontzer from Hunter College said, “This to me says that the big reason that Westerners are getting fat is because we eat too much - it's not because we exercise too little”.
