Bottled Water Damaging your Dental Health, warn Experts

Bottled water is diminishing your dental health, warn the experts. Though millions of us are today drinking bottled water, some experts warn that the water may contribute to diminished dental health.

Highlighting the facts, Dr. Burton Edelstein, President of the Children's Dental Health Project in Washington, DC, and a professor of dentistry and of health policy and management at Columbia University in New York City said that tooth decay among young children is increasing at alarming rates today.

He explained about the survey that was held by an Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2009 and results of which were published in the journal Pediatric Dentistry found. It showed that 70 percent parents agreed of giving bottled water to their children for drinking. They added that two-thirds of parents were not sure if the bottled water is pure or contain any amounts of fluoride.

They fear that the bottled water usage is causing the declining the dental health conditions in people and especially children.

"[Today] one in 10 two-year olds, one in five three-year olds, one in three four-year olds and approaching half of five-year-olds have visually evident tooth decay experience”, he said. "The consequences in terms of pain, infection, dysfunction and unmet treatment need are significant”.
