A study carried out lately by researchers at University of Western Sydney, Penrith, Australia asserts that walking habit can now be improved in people with the arrival of a new device dubbed pedometer.

The review was held in collaboration with a team from Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, as per the report. It has led them to conclude that pedometers that calculate one’s level of physical activity were helpful in boosting their walking spirit.

Pedometers are used for checking the progress while walking. And thus, these prove largely supportive when it comes to check if one is successfully meeting his or her set target for a day. It is being said that the devices have proved most beneficial for elderly people, who often tend to walk less because of their age and too much tiredness.

The study had involved some 330 people, of ages 65 and above but healthy, all of whom had been divided into two groups. The participants were told to check the effect of the physical activity programs on their physical activity and walking levels. Also, they had to impacts on their quality of life and body mass index (BMI), however they had told that they exercised regularly.

It was noted that their levels of exercising had significantly increased with the programs used.
