August has approached and so has the chance to enjoy the meteor shower once again. NASA calculates that Earth is observing the Perseids since more than 2,000 years. It claims that this meteor shower occurs annually in August because of the debris that is left behind from a comet called Swift-Tuttle.

It happens in August only every year because Earth’s rotation passes through the cloud of the comet's debris around this time only and that too once only in a year.

To make more people enjoy this meteor shower, Joshua Tree National Park rangers have decided to re-open Ryan Campground enabling people to enjoy this night show of the meteors from Aug. 10 to Aug. 12.

All those, who want to watch the upcoming Perseid meteor showers, can head towards the park, a park spokesman said on Friday. The peak activity of this annual Perseid meteor event will take place on Saturday Aug. 11 and thus the park rangers will start offering the night sky program view from 8:30 p. m. onwards, added Mr. Joe Zarki of Joshua Tree National Park in his statement.

“Each year in August, the Earth passes through a cloud of the comet's debris. These bits of ice and dust burn up in the Earth's atmosphere", a NASA webpage states.
