Samsung starts mass producing new, fastest embedded NAND storage chips

South Korea-based consumer electronics giant Samsung has confirmed that it has started mass producing the new embedded NAND storage chips for smartphones and tablets.

As per Samsung’s claims, the new eMMC Pro Class 1500 chip is four times faster than its predecessors. Tobe available in capacities ranging from 16GB to 64GB, the new chip will provide the industry's fastest speeds for embedded memory mobile devices.

The faster speed will make tasks like video gaming or 3D video playback considerably more efficient as these tasks require fast read & write times to storage for quicker processing.

The drive promises sequential reading and writing speeds of up to 140Mbps and 50Mbps, while the random reading and writing speeds are 3500 and 1500 input or output operations per second, respectively.

A 64GB eMMC flash storage unit, which will be embedded in mobile devices, weighs just 0.6g.

While Samsung produced its previous 64GB embedded chips using the 30nm class manufacturing facilities, new embedded memory units will be manufactured using 20nm class production facilities.
