Researchers Nicolas Gueguen and Celine Jacob conducted a survey over the tip-giving behavior of 272 restaurant customers and found that waitresses who wore red color t-shirt were given higher tips by male customers; no matter they posed a similar or different behavior that day. Female customers paid them the same amount as they usually used to give them on wearing any other color t-shirt.

In particular, by wearing red color t-shirt, waitresses got up to 26% extra tips as they used to get wearing other colored t-shirts. They were told to pose a similar kind of gesture, behavior and expression towards their customers. But it was surprising to note that bigger tips come from male customers by flaunting this color.

During this survey, around 11 waitresses belonging to five different restaurants were asked to wear same kind of t-shirts every day, but they were suppose to wear different colors every alternate day. Their make-up and behavior was same everyday but despite of this, the red color attracted them higher tips from male customers, researchers found. So, cheers to Red!
