This year’s peak of showers of big meteors is being anticipated to happen on August 12, as per a recent report, which means a few days are only left when OMSI would be seen hosting the same.
Though, Perseid Meteor Showers often start sometime in late July and end near about on August 18. However, this time these have already started, but are being expected to show the peak on August 12 only. It is being said that the showers are seen as a result of Earth entering the comet Swift-Tuttle’s debris.
“Swift-Tuttle follows a highly eccentric orbit around the Sun with an orbital period of about 130 years. The comet last passed by the Earth in December 1992”, said Jim Todd, OMSI planetarium manager.
Meteor showers, according to the report, are the constellations that apparently release the streaks. Also, it has been told that these are named as Perseids Meteor Showers since they appear to be coming out of Perseus, a constellation.
The report finds that the peak would probably be ending up showing some 40 – 60 meteors an hour. It is being said that the waning crescent moon to be soon would be actually making visible the pairing of Saturn and Mars as well as Jupiter.
