A latest discovery that cigars are now replacing cigarettes has concerned the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a report has found.
It has been found by the investigators that where cigarette smoking has seen a considerable fall over time. A 27.5% decline has been noticed in the smoking habit of people from 2000 to 2011. People are highly tending to go for non-cigarette tobacco products.
The statement is based on evidence that 482% increase in pipe tobacco consumption has been seen during the same period. And cigars are also not lagging behind, with their consumption has augmented by some 233%. The reason is lowered taxes on these products.
As per the findings, the figures have been revealed by the ‘Consumption of Cigarettes and Combustible Tobacco—United States, 2000-2011’ study conducted by the CDC. While tobacco intake is one issue, higher concerns have been raised on knowing that after one death from the same, 20 people are also struggling to fight against different chronic diseases.
The team says that the same not only worsens the country’s health chart, but also increases spending by costing some $193 billion on care each year. Linking all the negative issues to manufacturing companies, the CDC now suggests that taxation should be increased sooner.
