Every weekend, an absurd scene is witnessed in South Africa and a number of other nations on the continent. Its outside the liquor store when, long queues are formed to buy liquor of every range from cheap to some of the most expensive ones. And this is something that has created huge problems for politicians from South Africa to Kenya and Zambia.
Binge drinking is known as one of the main causes for increasing Africa’s burden of HIV, birth defects, road accidents and violent crime. It simply leads to alcohol abuse which further gives rise to such problems. And therefore politicians are under a big pressure to put a control over the situation on an urgent basis.
However, Africa is one such continent, where there exist large number of Muslims and evangelical Christians. And none of them drink because of some religious, cultural and economic reasons. But besides this, the continent is known to have the largest number of alcohol drinkers; reason: those who drink a lot.
With a rise in the incomes of people here, for international brewers and distillers, Africa has become a booming market.
In recent years, Arica has noticed a fantastic sales growth in terms of liquor sale.
And to put a stop over this trend, it is only the government who could finally crack down over the issue effectively.
