Healthy Diet during Young Age Necessary for Higher IQ Levels

Findings in a new study have proposed that those of the children that are kept on inadequate diets, including sugary candies or pops, are at a higher risk of developing poor IO levels.

A team of researchers from Australia's University of Adelaide analyzed the dietary habits of more than 7,000 children aged six months, 15 months and two years. Later on, they tested the IQ levels of the children at the age of eight years.

Dr. Lisa Smithers asserted that the children who were breast fed during the initial six months and after that given a healthy and proper diet, which included fruits, vegetables, cheese, had an IQ level, which was two points higher at the age of eight years, than those fed poor diets during the initial two years.

Smithers said, “Researchers also found some negative impact on IQ from ready-prepared baby foods given at six months, but some positive associations when given at 24 months”.

Smithers affirmed that the initial two years of the growth of a child plays a major role in their brain development and their diet is the most important, as it provides the brain with proper nutrition that helps it in its growth. Young children fed more of junk food as likely to have lower IQ levels.
