Consultation Over Plain Cigarette Packaging Reaches Its End

A review was launched across UK, which gave the public an opportunity to comment on government proposals regarding plain packaging of cigarettes. The review has come to its end.

Acknowledging the interest shown by people in the issue, the review was extended for a month, thus allowing more number of people to give away their comments.

The government proposed to introduce plain packaging that will be including only the names, with individual brand names being excluded, and health warnings, which will be clearly visible.

This means that the packages will not be including any logos, colors or any other attractive graphics, the packaging will be simply standard, with only the name of the cigarette. It is being suspected that the new plain packages will be in green color.

Plain packaging has emerged as a major source that will help restrain the young generation from falling into the habit of smoking and becoming another victim in the hands of tobacco.

The review was launched four months ago, at that time Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said, “He wanted tobacco companies to have no business in the UK”.

The review followed ban imposed on tobacco displays in large shops, which was implemented this year. Smaller shops will be banned from such displays by 2015.
