A breakthrough finding in the field of throat and cervical cancer is said to hold potential of finding effective treatment of cancer. Researchers of Queen’s University have found a non-cancerous tissue, located near the cancer.
The non-cancerous tissue is said to hold potential of boosting the growth of cancer. The researchers are of the view that their findings can help in finding effective cure for the disease. It is estimated that about 100 woman in Northern Ireland are affected with cervical cancer.
Besides, about 190 new cases of head and neck cancer are also diagnosed. A large number of cancer patients succumb to death as effective treatment are not available. The lead researcher of the study, Professor Dennis McCance was quoted saying, “Cancer spreads as the result of two-way communication between the cancer cells in a tumour and the non-cancerous cells in the surrounding tissue”.
The findings of the study have been published in the journal European Molecular Biology Organization. The researchers have found that a protein produced near the cancer affected area can help in curing cancer, timely. However, further studies are required to be conducted to draw a concrete conclusion. It is hoped that the findings will help researchers in developing effective treatment of cancer.
