Dog Injuries Take Most Young Children in England to Hospitals

It has been revealed in a recent report that dog attacks in England have increased over some time and thus have been resulting in increased number of hospital admissions too.

Researchers from the Health and Social Care Information Centre have found that most of the people being attacked are young children i. e. those under the age of 10 years. Nearly one in every six admissions is covered by this age group only.

The inquest has unveiled a 5.2% increase in wounded children in one year, including some for plastic surgery and others for facial surgery. While previously, the figure was noted to be 6,130, the same has been up to 6,450 injured people, as noted one year later i. e. in April 2012. Not only in the nation, but in the whole of the north east, some 551 cases of injuries were found to be a result of dog bites and strikes.

Also, the rate of admissions for a trauma or orthopaedic treatment specialty amongst adults was almost three times that of children. Only London was seen to be at the lowest position with 299 admissions.

“Through further analysis, it is also possible to infer a likely distinction in the type of injuries sustained by child and adult victims of dog bites and strikes”, said Tim Straughan, HSCIC chief executive.
