A recent survey has found that Britons are becoming more and more workaholic as they are spending their weekends in their office. The sudden shift among the working nature of the Britons has surprised researchers.
According to the survey, Britons are putting 9.1 hours extra in work on weekly basis. Besides, they are not just overworking but are not even getting paid for the overtime. It is believed that the pressure of recession, workload and fear of losing jobs is forcing them to spend their weekends on work.
For the survey, about 2,000 adults were contacted. Most of the participants of the survey said that workload has pushed them to work on holidays. The General Secretary of TUC, Brendan Barber, said, “Millions of workers give the economy a multibillion-pound boost with the extra unpaid hours they put in at work…Bosses should thank staff for going that extra mile”.
These workers are unpaid for the overtime and their bosses are not even thanking them for the efforts they are putting in the organization. It has been warned that long working hours can make the workers sick, which could lead to increased number of absence and sick leaves. Employers should take a note of the findings of the survey.
