Oregon State University researchers suspect teachers in the region to be the only particular reason for an increase in crayfishes and amphibians in the waters of a nearby river, according to a recent report. Also, it is being said that these species are not good, rather dangerous for native environments.
The doubts come after a study that was lately conducted by the team and funded by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The review was conducted on some 2,000 teachers in the United States and Canada.
It has shed light on the fact that while teachers use these live species for giving instructions and providing training to students. Also, they keep them sometimes for days in aquariums, but ignorant of their harmful impact on environment, leave these free afterwards.
Nearly only 10% of all enrolled teachers were found to be releasing these invasive aquatic species for a planned release program. While all others were even tending to call for outside organisms for teaching, thereby again making a bit to increase in invasive-species problem.
“There are consequences to using them and both teachers and suppliers should consider what will become of these organisms when the classroom lessons are over”, suggested invasive-species expert Sam Chan.
