Tourists Coming to Nepal Advised to Be Vigilant Against Cholera

After discovering 13 deaths as a result of a recent outbreak of cholera, health experts are now raising warnings for outsiders travelling into the country to remain highly vigilant as well as follow some precautionary measures, a recent report uncovers.

However, cholera cases are being noticed since last 15 years in Nepal, especially in the rainy season. Cholera is a disease caused either by food or water-borne bacterium, the report finds in the meanwhile, with the power to kill one in a day if left untreated. But the number has always remained low with no deaths in any region. It is for the first time that 13 deaths have been seen in merely two months.

All the deceased were from in Doti district, a remote area, in western Nepal. As per the report, Kathmandu had also realized a total of 15 cases since mid-April, luckily none of those people faced death.

While the same raised disquiets to a high extent, the situation has now been got under control by the Himalayan nation's epidemiology and disease control department. Still, suggestions are being seen that tourists should in particular take care that they drink only boiled or mineral water, maintaining good hygiene at the same time.
