Remains of hundreds of ancient warriors found in Danish bog

In a Denmark evacuation, which is a collaborative attempt involving the Skanderbord Museum, Moesgard Museum and Aarhus University, evacuators have found the remains of hundreds of ancient warriors who died in a violent battle nearly 2,000 years back.

On Tuesday, the evacuators reported that the remains of the warriors had been found in what currently is a Danish bog --- a site which is situated in the peat of an old lake bed in the Alken Enge wetlands near Lake Mossø in East Jutland, Denmark.

The evacuators, from Denmark’s Aarhus University, have been at work at the site for the last two months; with the funding for the evacuation – which chiefly is follow-on to the work done in 2008 and 2009 - having been provided by the Carlsberg Foundation. Guided tours to the evacuation site are being conducted, and will continue till August 23.

Among the ancients warriors’ remains which the evacuators have uncovered in the Danish bog are broken human bones, including a fractured skull and a thigh bone which apparently was slashed in half. While human bones have quite periodically been uncovered at the site, the evacuators have also found spears, shields, axes, and clubs.

According to the information shared by the evacuators, the warriors’ remains found at the site will be exhumed in the next few days, and studies will be conducted to find out more details about who the warriors were and where they had come from.
