Exposure of HIV Infected Mothers Brings no Risk to Infants

According to researchers, if a HIV infected mother breast feds her infant then there is hardly any risk of transmitting the virus to him because breast milk consists of such bioactive components that are purely condensed to the risk of HIV transmission.

As said by Lars Bode, from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine “In developing countries, HIV-infected mothers are faced with the decision of whether or not to breastfeed their babies”.

Reason behind this is they are unable to decide a higher priority for their child’s development. Breastfeeding when reduces the risk for a baby to die from any kind of respiratory and intestinal infections and also improves his immunity then at the other hand, breast milk of a HIV infected mother might expose the child to HIV virus, further risking him to die.

But to find out the actual happening, Bode along with his colleagues when set out a study, he was surprised to know that even continuous breastfeeding does not increase the risk of transmitting the virus to a child.

All credit goes to those immunologically active components called human milk oligosaccharides (HMO), which are also categorized as a type of carbohydrate and consist of a truss of several simple sugars.
