When it comes to drying oneself, dogs have been found to be shaking themselves wildly to get rid of the water. Researchers studying the animals have found that by shaking itself for few seconds, dog can get rid of 70% of water from their fur.

The observation was held by the researchers of Georgia Institute of Technology. The observation was held with the aim of improving the working of the washing machines, painting equipments, and dryers. The tactics used by the dogs in drying themselves can help researchers in coming up with better machines.

The findings of the observation have been published in the Interface Journal of The Royal Society. The researchers further said that a large mammal shakes slowly and small mammals shake swiftly. A mouse is capable of shaking its body 27 times in one second. However, a bear shakes four times in a second.

Andrew Dickerson, a student of mechanical engineering said, “We hope the findings from our research will contribute to technology that can harness these efficient and quick capabilities of drying seen in nature”. It is hoped that the research will help in devising improved version of machines and dryers.
