In a recent study, researchers have found bone deformities while observing the fossils of Ichthyosarians. The giant dolphin like reptiles, Ichthyosarians lived on the Earth somewhere 245 million years ago.
The deformities found on the fossils is similar to the one observed in the humans. The findings of the study have been published in the journal of Science of Nature.
While examining the fossils, researchers found that deformities might have been caused to the reptiles by deep diving. By spending too much time in the water does causes deformities to humans as well. John Hayman from University of Melbourne said, “Ichthyosarians probably evolved the ability to dive deeper and to remain at depth for longer periods. An alternative explanation is that the reptiles developed decompression sickness from being trapped in shallow water by predators”.
The observation has showed a link between humans and reptiles. Human divers have also experienced deformities because of spending too much time in the water. It is for the very first time when animals have been found of suffering with the same diseases of humans. The research will help scientists in better understanding the animals.
