Consumer group which has raised questions over the image of so-called cereal bars. These cereal bars have been highly condemned after results of study carried out by the group suggest that majority of the cereal bars are rich in sugary contents as well as the fat levels are high.

Researchers of the study asserted that at random 30 cereal bars were picked from supermarkets. These cereal bars are amongst the majorly consumed as believed of being high in nutritional value, thus considered as healthy snacking.

The bars were initially analyzed of their calorific content, sugar content, fat levels- both saturated and unsaturated and even salt content.

Results concluded that 29 out of the total 30 bars were high in sugar contents. Rather, 16 of them were found to be containing sugar levels more than 30%.

Further, they highlighted that Nutri-Grain Elevenses cereal bars were containing as much as four teaspoons of sugar. Health experts suggest that an adult should not consume more than this much quantity of sugar in a day.

Tracker Roasted Nut bar contained 33% of fat. Monster Puffs contained almost two teaspoons of sugar. It is said, “Nakd Apple Pie was the only bar that did not contain added sugar, while the Alpen Light Apple and Sultana were the ones containing appropriate levels of fat, saturated fat and salt”.
