For a long time, researchers from Canada and the U. S. have been trying to develop a vaccine, which can provide lifelong protection against influenza. However, now it seems that they are not far in developing such vaccine.
If the researchers are able to develop the vaccine then there would be no need of annual flu shots. It is been a century that influenza strains have been creating problem for people, and since then researchers across the globe have been trying to find a solution to the problem.
Dr. Gary Kobinger, who is the head of special pathogen program at the National Virology Lab, was of the view that they are quite positive that clinical trials of the vaccine will be a huge success. Once they pass these trials, there will be no need of other vaccines.
"If that vaccine can work against all these viruses for the past 100 years, it will also most likely protect against the viruses that we don't know of yet”, said Kobinger. He affirmed that even if the vaccine is approved then also it will take at least seven years to be available in the market. This is the reason that the researchers do not want to make any mistake and come out with a successful product.
