China's New Beach Trend: 'Face-kini’

China’s beaches these days are seeing a new summer accessory trend to block out the sun and it is nothing other than a full head mask along with a long-sleeve body suit that opens no part of the body to the hot sun. The trend has been reported by international media outlets including The New York Times.

China’s women are making efforts to protect their bodies from the harmful effects of the sun and UV rays for which they have started wearing a full body suit with long sleeves accompanied with a full head mask known as face-kini with areas around eyes and mouth opened.

Many women at a beach in the Shandong province in east China have been seen recently wearing this new trend protective mask.

Reports from the Daily Mail are confirming that the full body mask costing approx 15-12 Yuan (($2.3 to $3.9) was designed seven years ago. It helps to protect the body of the wearer even from insects and jellyfish.

A French newspaper Le Monde (via NPR) has written that the ‘face-kini' reflects a "terror of tanning." Chinese women wanting to have a pale skin prefer wearing this summer accessory.

It could be a big reason for the ongoing massive production of these accessories and large sales of the same at swimwear stores along the coast in China.
