Friday’s statements from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency have issued warnings to the Canadians about a salmonella-contaminated batch of mangoes.
“There have been several confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of these mangoes”, the organization said.
Adding in their statement to make the people aware of all the information related to the affected batch, the agency said that the affected lot of mangoes was supplied between July 12 and August 14 of this summer and the batch was labeled with a sticker reading PLU# 4959.
The people in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon have been especially warned by the agency as the supply of the contaminated fruit was made to these cities.
Bacteria salmonella causes a food-borne disease salmonellosis, which commonly targets younger children, elders or people, who have a weaker immunity. Some of the short-term symptoms of this disease are high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. But in case, the illness triggers it can cause some long-term complications as well like severe arthritis etc.
Thus, CFIA has suggested people suffering with such symptoms to immediately contact their doctors. Also it has suggested people, who doubt to have made the purchase of the affected mangoes to contact their retailers to check.
