Vitamin D Increases tuberculosis Recovery: Study

Almost 1.5 million people across the world are being killed due to tuberculosis. However, now there are chances that things will improve, as doctors in London have found a hope in vitamin D supplements.

The study has also been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, in which it has been revealed that patients, who were treated with vitamin D supplements and medicine, have a haste recovery.

It cannot be said that the idea of including vitamin D supplements is new. As earlier also when antibiotics were not developed for tuberculosis the also people were recommended to take sun bath. With the passage of time and advancement in medicine field, the concept of sun bathing got disappeared.

Doctors in London carried out the study on 95 patients. They provided medicines with vitamin D supplements. It was found that people were able to recover two weeks faster with the addition of vitamin D dose.

Dr. Adrian Martineau from Queen Mary University of London, was of the view that addition of vitamin D will act as tool to enhance the recovery. "If we can help these cavities to heal more quickly, then patients should be infectious for a shorter period of time, and they may also suffer less lung damage”, affirmed Martineau.
