Many families affected with Alzheimer’s and Dementia have voiced that Chinese herb Ginkgo biloba is good in improving the memory of a person. Recently, researchers conducted an experiment over 2,800 elders to gauge its usefulness.

However, during the trial, it was found that the drug is of no good for improving the memory of a person affected with dementia or Alzheimer’s. For the trial, the researchers gave Ginkgo biloba to the elders in the study.

Jess Smith, Spokeswoman of Alzheimer's Society, said, “However, in recent years evidence - including a previous study by Alzheimer's Society - has repeatedly shown that it does not have any benefits in preventing the disease or slowing down symptoms”.

The research was conducted by the researchers of Toulouse University. The findings, which have been published in The Lancet Neurology, will help researchers in better understanding the ways of treating Alzheimer’s.

It is estimated that about 18 million people all over the world are affected with Alzheimer’s. With aging, Alzheimer’s and dementia like diseases can affect one’s life. It is hoped that in the coming times, a concrete treatment of Alzheimer’s and Dementia will be found.
