In order to experience the way patients are treated and provided care and how hospital staff works, a Health Executive attended a shift in A&E department of one of the hospitals under the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
John Somers, Chief Financial Officer at the trust, asserted that he was interested in acknowledging the problems that the staff had to face while treating the patients how medics carry on with the proceedings; so he chose to be in one of the busiest hospitals.
He said, “It was an extremely valuable exercise to step into the shoes of our staff and patients to experience the care and surroundings provided within the trust”.
Further, he detailed that he got a deep insight into how many different roles the medics have to play for the benefits of the patient. Moreover, he was pleased to attain the valuable feedback from the patients and also the staff regarding the hospital services and management.
John also visited the area where admissions are done and also spent time with care management team and gained more about admission process.
He was able to interact with the staff and acknowledge their working due to The Back to the Floor scheme, which provides an opportunity to executives to spend time with the staff and experience their real life.
