Study Links Importance of Green Tea with Brain Memorizing

Green tea has majorly been linked with good heart health and also overall health improvement. However, findings in this recent study have suggested that green tea can also boost the memorizing power of your brain.

The Chinese study asserted that the chemical properties of the beverage have helped it emerge as a memory booster. They emphasized that the tea has a significant influence on the working of the brain, thus making a potential health drink for the brain, helping in learning and spatial memorizing.

Study leader Professor Yun Bai from the Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China, and the team laid emphasis on a particular organic chemical EGCG, which is a component in green tea.

Prof. Bai said, “We proposed that EGCG can improve cognitive function by impacting the generation of neuron cells, focusing on hippocampus, the part of the brain which processes information from short-term to long-term memory”.

The team discovered that the chemical left a significant impact on the cells by increasing the production of neural progenitor cells. Further, they carried out a series of experiments on mice to prove that increased cell production can boost memory.

The mice imbibed with ECGC, initially trained to search a hidden platform, took less time to find the platform, thus proving that green tea enhances memory.
