New Government to Decide the Fate of UK Airport

New Government to Decide the Fate of UK Airport

The government has announced that they will not be making any final decision regarding the further development of UK airport at Heathrow till the time next general elections are not held.

Former Financial Services Authority Chairman Sir Howard Davies has been appointed to be the new chairman of going to be airport policy independent commission. However, its final decision report will not be issued before summer of 2015.

New Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin asserted that the new appointed government will be assessing the report of the commission and will be taking the subsequent step; they will decide whether or not to hold up the suggestions highlighted in the report.

This new declaration has delayed the plans for several months on whether a new runway would be constructed for Heathrow or a new airport will be set up in Thames Estuary.

However, the allied government was initially not in favor of expanding the Heathrow and constructing the third runway, but the proposal was supported by last Labour administration.

On the other hand, London mayor Boris Johnson and architect Lord Foster were in favor of the new estuary airport.

Due to the ongoing debate, Justine Greening was dismissed from her designation of Transport Secretary.
