Macmillan Cancer Support had conducted a survey and the same has led it to learn there is a great need to make children aware about causes of cancer since most of them are living with misconceptions, according to a recent report.

It is being said by the charity that though it is the need of the hour to inform children about the same. A number of children are ill-informed and due to this, some children are of the belief that their misbehavior may also lead them to experience cancer.

Nearly 500 children of age 9 to 16 years were enrolled in the study, which has shed light over the fact that they were not even knowing what having cancer actually meant. They had no idea that sunrays or sunburn can also lead to the illness, claiming thousands of lives each year.

While some 4% of children thought that the disease is transmittable i. e. can be contracted from another person as well, one in every five children voted that it always causes a person's death. The survey revealed that merely two-thirds of all knew a person with cancer or what it is.

Suggesting teachers to educate children over cancer, Katherine Donnelly concluded, "There was a slight increase in children who had been taught about cancer, but not hugely significant".
