A patient who is already suffering from heart disease and needs an immediate surgery to save his life is being forced to travel 450 miles to and fro from the hospital to home because there are no beds vacant in the hospital to treat him. This is something really ridiculous and demands an immediate review.
Stephen Jones, 62, was advised a heart bypass surgery, but in two weeks time, he was sent back home due to unavailability of beds in the hospital. First round back was on August 24, then on 31st and again on September 5.
His heart valve is no more in a working condition and he can’t do anything except waiting patiently for his turn to come.
Apart from this heart problem, Mr. Jones has angina, asthma, emphysema and clinical depression also. And all these repeatedly setbacks are worsening his condition day by day.
Jones is a former health and safety consultant, from Tiverton, Devon. He said: “I'm exhausted mentally and physically. I've been backwards and forwards, building myself up again and again”.
Preparing oneself for such a major surgery is not an easy job and doing this again and again becomes tougher.
Is it the fault of the hospital or the NHS, which is putting increased pressure on medical services every time?
