Ricotta salata cheese has been found contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and thus Forever Cheese Inc. has pulled a whole lot of it so as to get it examined, reveals an up-to-date report.

The lot contained nearly 4,800 pounds of the cheese. It has been found that the product under brand name Frescolina was sold to distributors to be given to restaurants and retailers sometime between June 20 and August 9. However, locations of the buyers are yet undisclosed.

Besides, a national recall has also been announced as the bacterium caused states, some 12 in number, to suffer, Georgia is one. Since, Listeria monocytogenes causes infections, mostly in children or elderly people with weak immune systems. And pregnant women should especially remain cautious as they may suffer miscarriages.

Residents of Massachusetts are currently being warned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be aware. They are being told to especially send the products back if they contain lot number T9425 or production code 441202.

The product is supplied by Whole Foods supplier Forever Cheese Inc. located in New York. The recalled pieces are now being cut into wedges, followed by packaging in clear plastic wrap and being sold with label PLU 293427.
