According to a recent report, Short Changed by Stroke, released by the Stroke Association, the welfare reforms introduced in the UK by the government are causing stroke survivors as well as their care takers to suffer negative impacts.

It has been found that these reforms have caused many to fight for some kind of financial support. Since, incomes can be reduced with spending on treatments while living costs still remain the same. Also, sometimes the costs increase because of medications.

Stroke patients tend to face complex adult disability as a result of their condition. Also, they sometimes find it difficult to move, think and communicate as well as experience fatigue and anxiety. While the number of sufferers is not less, estimations are of one in some six people to get a stroke some time in their life.

It is being said that while over 65s get help from their pensions, people under the age of 65 years can only depend on welfare benefits. Since, the same are not found adequate, the government is being urged to improve the WCA assessment process so that patients could get maximum help, the report finds.

“Not only are they struggling to make ends meet on a day-to-day basis, but they are unable to plan for their future financial security”, said the group.
