Anthony Nolan Charity Reduces bone marrow donors’ Age to 16

The Anthony Nolan charity has become the first charity across the globe, which has lowered the bone marrow’s donor age to 16 years from 18. The cancer charity has announced that their revised guidelines allow people as young as 16 years to sign and register in the bone marrow register.

The news has made Alice Pyne, 16, from Ulverston, quite happy. He was being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma some four years ago. Since then, he has been making efforts to get more names on the register.

It is now that his wish has been fulfilled and now says that she wants that more number of people should come and donate stem cells. She has even met David Cameron and discussed with him about the stem cells and bone marrow issue.

The charity officials were of the view that they have realized that young people are better donors. Henny Braund, who is the chief executive of the Anthony Nolan, was of the view, “We are boosting the size of the register but reducing the average age of potential donors to ensure doctors can pick the healthiest matches”. It is now expected that more people will come forth and will fulfill their moral responsibilities.
