Emma – Donkey Foal Gets Kiss of Life

Emma – Donkey Foal Gets Kiss of Life

Emma, a donkey foal, was born with a severely deformed hind limb. It was only two days old when it was being sent to the College of Veterinary Medicine, so that it could get a new prosthetic leg. The veterinary teaching hospital as well as the Hanger Clinic worked tirelessly to gift new life to the foal.

Dr. Fred Caldwell was of the view that they feel proud to announce that they have got successful in their aim and Emma has been able to move freely with its new prosthetic leg.

Caldwell affirmed that it is uncommon to provide prosthetic leg to donkey and foal. There are a number of reasons for the same, like their height and the size. However, now the time has changed and it is now possible to provide a new hope to even these creatures.

“She has progressed to the second iteration of her prosthesis, which doesn't incorporate as much of the limb and allows her more range of motion”, said Caldwell. He affirmed that Emma would need their help quite a time now, as she has to get different variations of prosthetic legs. Procedure will continue till Emma is fully grown up.
