According to a recent study led by UK-based scientists and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the data that is being gathered from the trees of a particular region is quite useful for determining the natural variation that takes place in the climate system of that place. It is in fact considered as a key tool to assess the same.

The study indicated that tree-rings that have been collected from lowland tropical cedar are an excellent source of information regarding the natural documentation of rainfall data.

Co-author Manuel Gloor from the University of Leeds said, "Climate models vary widely in their predictions for the Amazon, and we still do not know whether the Amazon will become wetter or dryer in a warmer world".

But then with the help of a past discovery they have found a quite powerful tool using which they can easily understand the extent of natural variability of the system.

As further explained by the researchers, the magnitude and speed of climate change all over the globe actually depends upon the vast size and position of the region on the equator. In addition to this, the response of the forested area's hydrological cycle is also important.
